Founders of MyValleySprings.com

The founders of MyValleySprings.com* are a group of Valley Springs area citizens who are concerned about the impact of growth on quality of life. We are dedicated to preserving the rural beauty and historic elements of our community and natural environments through active public participation in the planning and policy-making process of local government.

We started as an informal group in November, 2005, and incorporated as a non-profit in January 2007.

MyValleySprings.com is FOR the Valley Springs and Calaveras County communities. Growth is happening and it needs to be better planned. We strongly favor smart growth as defined by the 'California Planning Guide': "Development that serves the economy, the community, and the environment." That definition implies participation and cooperation from representatives of each of these areas.

*We are a California and federal 501c(3) non-profit corporation. Links to application documents (Form 1023 and Bylaws) and IRS exemption letter are posted below.

Philosophy

To strive toward community empowerment to protect our quality of life.

To work together to find solutions and balance between a healthy economy, growth, and a safe and beautiful rural community.

Positions

a. We support what benefits the community as a whole.

b. Smart growth is what the community decides is smart for it.

c. Slow rampant growth; carefully plan for growth.

d. Update inadequate and conflicted county General Plan, including more oversight and controls (such as a Grading Ordinance and Oak Tree Protection Ordinance).

e. Update the Valley Springs Community Plan and include all area residents in this process (including residents of Rancho Calaveras).

f. Update the Valley Springs Community Plan within the framework of a comprehensive county General Plan update; a new community plan based on a weak General Plan is counter-productive and invites conflicts.

g. Encourage public participation in all phases of the planning process.

h. Support a democratic and transparent planning process.

i. Preserve the quality of our rural life.

j. Insist on adequate funding from existing and future development for the infrastructure needed to support that development in order to provide for the community's safety, health, and welfare.

k. Development fees should reflect actual costs to the county and taxpayers.
