Attn:    Greater Valley Springs Advisory Group (GVSAG)                            April 4, 2008

(and all interested citizens and officials)

Meeting summary and update:

The GVSAG meeting on Thursday March 27th was productive in the sense that all of the seven ‘segments’ or ‘topics’ were represented, and all in attendance are that much more in tune with what the rest of the group is doing.  It’s a learning process for all concerned, and that together with the fact that one or more of the invited guests did not attend to answer questions, there were some areas of the agenda that were not as productive as we would have liked.

We did, however come away with the following:

  1. We’re supposed to think of ‘Topic Areas’, rather than ‘Elements’
  2. Our Valley Springs ’Vision’ should focus on what is ‘unique’ about Valley Springs. Otherwise, it will merely be a ‘repeat’ of the General Plan, and not a document that is an effective working tool.  “Think of a new Vision, not the old plan.”
  3. Several boundary maps for discussion were presented as a ‘place to start’.  Also, it was evident from the information presented that much work, research and discussion has been done and the conversations within the committees are ongoing.  This is a work in progress and I am hopeful that we will continue to come together on the different issues as the process evolves.  That’s the beauty of a team effort, and that’s what will ensure that we have an all-inclusive product in the end.
  4. Each ‘Topic’ vision statement is to be emailed by 4-11-08 to  jaytee@caltel.com . Vision statements will be posted to a new GVSAG website (currently being set up) by 4-14-08 for public review and comment.
  5. Each visioning committee is to select one person and one alternate from their group to become a member of the GVSAG Coordinating Committee (CC).  This committee will coordinate activities of the Greater Valley Springs Advisory Group (GVSAG), compile and create the final blended Community Vision statement with input from all topic groups, and determine at least two Community Area Boundary Alternatives/Options.  The CC may require an additional monthly or bi-monthly meeting.  The CC may have the opportunity to apply for grant funding (MyValleySprings.com could be a fiscal sponsor).  Responsibilities will include meeting agendas, maintenance of GVSAG website, responding to GVSAG emails and public comments, and may include solicitation and administration of grant funds.  Please respond ASAP and prior to April 11th, to jaytee@caltel.com as to who will be the representative and alternate from each Vision Topic/ Element committee to be on the Coordinating Committee.
  6. Future GVSAG communications will be through the GVSAG’s website and email.
  7. The next GVSAG meeting will be at 7:00 pm on April 24, 2008, at the Methodist Church in V.S.  The Coordinating Committee may meet before that date to discuss the agenda.

Thanks for having a sense of ‘community’, for seeing the possibilities, and for reaching out to make a difference.
