Town Meeting #1: Smart Growth and Community Design

"Thank you so much for hosting a special town meeting. Great turnout."--Richard & Lynne Epler, Valley Springs

"I attended the meeting last evening at the school, along with four other gentlemen from Gold Creek Estates. We all had preconceived ideas of what was going to be presented. I decided I would attend so that my voice would be heard to counter those presented by your speakers. What a surprize I had coming. I agreed with every word the speakers said. I left that meeting with hope that Valley Springs was already heading towards the future my wife and I hoped to retire in and enjoy. The concerns and goals presented were my concerns and goals. Just as we selected Valley Springs for its location and proximity to our families, there will be many. many more following us... and it will be in great numbers over the next 10 years. Thank you for hosting this meeting. I have changed my mind about MYVALLEYSPRINGS after just one actual contact. We do have much we agree on, even if we (Gold Creek people) represent the first generation of sudden growth, because, like you, we want Valley Springs to be the best it can be... for everyone. Again, thank you.

PS: Too bad our developer did not incorporate much, if any, of what was discussed last night. It would have been a better development with parks, walk/bike path to town, etc.. and thus a better Valley Springs."--George Kennady, Valley Springs

"Good presentation but would be more beneficial to be mandatory viewing by Planning Departments. Ideas presented don't seem to really pertain to Valley Springs or surrounding areas. This area is more geared to agriculture (ranching) than business and retail."--Penney Cavallaro, San Andreas

"Change truck route off Daphne St. Less housing--more business large enough to be a tax source & we can buy a pair of shoes/clothing--etc. or household needs. If the proposed housing as shown on the map are built how will we support all the roads, schools, traffic, police & fire, etc. needed?"--Rita Berry, Valley Springs

"Necessity--a mid-to-upscale "senior" living complex."--Elaine Northcote, Burson

"Great program! Wish all the supervisors had attended. How can we bring this concept into being?"--Barbara Grogan, San Andreas

"I couldn’t help envision nice sidewalks, bike paths and stores for Calaveras towns after seeing photos in the presentation. I picture these things here in Valley Springs. Whether or not we’re ready for it, I don’t know."-—Paula Davis, realtor, Valley Springs (CE 3/2/07)

"Hi...I want to thank you for your efforts to control growth in Valley Springs area. I was at recent town meeting and have been involved with our town meetings in Railroad Flat area. good luck in your efforts..."--Glen Inouye, Railroad Flat

"When I moved here, a traffic jam was eight cars at a stop sign. Now it’s ridiculous.”-—Ron Thompson, VS (UD 3/5/07)

"They’re talking about selling out our lifestyle—we enjoy our rural lifestyle. Every place in California doesn’t have this.”—Richard Epler, Rancho Calaveras, VS (UD 3/5/07)

"The crowd was especially attentive, leaving me to think that people are beginning to grasp the serious task ahead. They seem eager to get on with it.”-—Buzz Eggleston, Calaveras Enterprise editorial 3/6/07
